Road to Rhode Island

This past weekend, Hubs and I went to Newport, RI for our anniversary (awwww.) I had previously been there some years ago, but he had never been, so I booked a quick little getaway for us.

IT. WAS. LOVELY!!! Our first stop was to tour a couple of the mansions, because, duh, Newport. We saw the Breakers and Rose Cliff, the latter of which was my dream wedding spot. Unfortunately some of the outside walls and grounds were being restored, but all in all, still great tours. After the mansions we checked into an adorable little B&B, and headed off the lunch.

Lunch at the Wharf Pub was soooo good. We went there on a recommendation of a coworker, and it did not disappoint. We ordered a dozen oysters, some wings, and truffle tots. NOMS. Libations included beer cocktails for the hubs and an amazing sangria for myself that tasted just like fall and made me quite happy.  After lunch we walked around a bit and checked out the boats in the harbor. And since the Boat Show was in town (mental note to go there a week later next time– price surge!) we saw some yachts that were bigger than any house I’ll ever own.

Our second day in Newport was the really fun day; we went on the famous cliff walk and sailing! Originally we had intended on doing the cliff walk both ways, but time constrained us to just one way. A good chunk of the path was paved, but the middle to end of the walk was really a CLIFF walk. It was tiring but amazing, and the views combined with the sea air made it so memorable.  After a quick lunch at the Black Pearl patio we went sailing with Sight Sailing Newport. I chartered the Starlight so it was just us and the captain. It was my first time sailing, and I absolutely LOVED it! We had perfect weather; sunny, not too windy, calm seas. It really just makes me want to buy a boat more and more (maybe I can afford one in 20 years? LOL)

Both nights our desserts consisted of cookies from The Cookie Jar at Bowen’s Wharf. We’re both cookie fiends, and they were sooo good. I highly recommend the Butterscotch cookies! The aroma of those things filled the entire wharf and made us hungry for sugar even though we were full from dinner.

And now we’re back home. I can’t tell you how wonderful it was to sleep in my own bed 😀
